What We're Looking For
- At the moment, ZipSchool has 3 full-time employees. Everyone does everything here. But, we don't have anyone who's a "true" educator here full-time. None of us have ever had to teach a room full of elementary schoolers. We don't have that second sense that an educator does when it comes to how a certain topic should be taught, how to handle a certain student, or how to give other teachers feedback to help them improve.
- We're looking for someone that just gets kids, gets teachers, and can figure out everything in between. While this role is called "Curriculum Developer", it might as well be called "Educator that does everything". You will likely have new problems to deal with every single week that you've probably never had to deal with!
- For example, your first day of work may look like us telling you, "Hey, we need to run a class on self-driving cars for 1st graders. We have a team of 50 teachers ready to teach the class to batches of 5 students. We only have a week!". Then, you'd do everything needed to write the lesson plan, communicate with teachers, monitor classes, make sure class quality stays high, do everything else needed to pull this off, and ofcourse - learn! We're looking for folks who are okay with moving super-fast, messing up, and improving at a breakneck pace.
- Or, another week we may say, "Hey, we need to build these educational math games for 2nd graders. Please work with this game developer and lead them to build an awesome game, get it to users, and see if people loved it or not. We only have a week".
- Zip is a startup. We’re all easily working 40-80 hours a week. We're looking for people who understand this. If you join as a curriculum developer, you'd be doing 100 things other than curriculum development. If you want awesome work-life balance ZipSchool is not for you. If you want to join the company that's going to revolutionalize digital education and are down to make sacrifices for it, ZipSchool is for you.
- The goal of this is not to scare you, rather, just be super real with you. Working at Zip is hard. And, we want to be straight up about that before you take the time to apply and interview.
Our Process
- A 40-minute phone call to get to know how you work and what you're looking for.
- If you seem cool and you think we seem cool, we'll immediately contract you out part-time for 5-10 hours per week for 3-4 weeks.
- If the contract went well and we're both super excited, then we can move forward with an offer!
Benefits
- Stock in the company (0.25% - 0.5%) + a base salary ($65K - $95K).
- The range is pretty wide because we're interested in both people with very little experience and people with a lot of experience. But, that means different compensation packages based on the value you bring to the company Day 1.
- All that good stuff like health insurance, a shiny new company laptop, and a nice chair to bless your back with comfort.
